What are Structures?
A structure is something that is built. Structures can be very small, like a birdhouse, or very big, like a skyscraper. People build many types of structures for different reasons. Let’s learn more about them!
Types of Structures
There are two main types of structures: natural structures and man-made structures.
Natural Structures
Natural structures are created by nature. They can include things like mountains, trees, and caves. For example, a tree grows with strong roots and a sturdy trunk, making it a natural structure. These structures are important because they provide homes and food for many animals.
Man-Made Structures
Man-made structures are built by people. They can be houses, bridges, or schools. A bridge is built to help people cross rivers or roads. Man-made structures need to be safe and strong, so builders use good materials such as wood, metal, or concrete.
Parts of a Structure
All structures have parts that work together. Here are some common parts:
- Foundation: This is the base of a structure. It helps hold everything up. Without a strong foundation, the structure can tip over.
- Walls: Walls are important because they keep out the weather and help keep people safe inside.
- Roofs: Roofs protect the inside of a structure from rain and snow. A good roof keeps everyone dry.
